Qualification Purpose:

This unit provides learners with a comprehensive theoretical foundation for internal quality assurance (IQA) processes. It introduces the context, principles, and practices of quality assurance within assessment, helping learners understand how to uphold consistent, fair, and reliable assessment standards in their organisations. Learners will explore the roles and responsibilities of IQA professionals, the importance of effective planning, and the regulatory and legal frameworks governing assessment processes. The unit also addresses sampling techniques, feedback mechanisms, data protection, standardisation, and how technology can enhance internal quality assurance practices. This unit is particularly suitable for those who want to understand IQA in depth without needing to demonstrate practical application in a workplace.

This practical unit is designed to assess a learner’s competence in applying internal quality assurance within a real working environment. Learners will develop the skills to plan, carry out, and evaluate internal monitoring activities, ensuring that assessment decisions meet specified standards and are safe, fair, valid, and consistent. The unit includes providing constructive feedback to assessors, supporting professional development, implementing standardisation practices, and maintaining accurate records. Learners will also be assessed on their ability to apply policies and legislation, reflect on their practice, and maintain up-to-date knowledge in IQA. To meet the assessment criteria, learners must evidence their performance in the workplace by monitoring at least two assessors, each with at least two learners, across components of a qualification.
